Advances in reverse logistics and re-refining of lubricating oils in Brazil have significantly contributed to the sector’s decarbonization, as well as to reducing environmental impact and dependence on mineral base oil imports. In this session, international and regional experts will discuss new technologies, regulations, and circular economy strategies to transform this waste into new resources and expand collection and re-refining systems, supporting both sector decarbonization and efficient waste management.
Schedule and location: 16/05/2025 – 2 pm – 54h pm at FIESP Av. Paulista, 1313, São Paulo
The current food production system is characterized by a significant volume of loss and waste along the entire chain, which, in addition to being a crucial point in combating hunger and eradicating poverty, also constitutes a source of methane emissions, a potent greenhouse gas. This session presents current status and key challenges in combating food loss and waste, explores opportunities for improving current systems through the adoption of circular practices and aims at building circular economy capacities in Latin American and Caribbean countries by presenting the latest regional initiatives and promoting their replicability. Participants will delve into inspiring local and international examples of innovative solutions that can be applied at scale along the entire chain—from production to disposal—stimulating the reduction, recovery, and reintegration of food and its waste into the production cycle, reducing inefficiencies and related carbon footprint.
Organizers: Center of Excellence for Circular Economy and Climate Change for Latin America and the Caribbean (CECC-LAC), Brazilian Institute of Solid Waste (Instituto PNRS), International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) and UNEP-IETC
